Cowboy Wisdom: “This morning, with her, having coffee.”

Cowboy Wisdom: “This morning, with her, having coffee.”

Once, when asked for his definition of paradise, Johnny Cash replied,
“This morning, with her, having coffee.”

No doubt you know that the her Johnny was talking about was June Carter Cash in this famous quote.
Johnny and June were married for 35 years and were separated only by June’s death. Johnny died within four months of June’s passing in 2003.

This quote holds special significance for my husband and I.

We share coffee together most mornings, with few exceptions.

I know some of y’all are thinking, “that must be nice!”
(But in a bitchy bless your heart kind of way that always means the complete opposite of what ever smiling bullshit is coming out of your mouth…).

And while y’all are entitled to your opinion, I will tell you that often means that we sacrifice sleep and comfort to make time for our daily ritual. It means we wake up in different time zones and come together on FaceTime over coffee when one of us is on the road.

Our coffee may be 10 minutes or 2 hours, but we always make the time to do it, and to share that time together.

Now, I’m not a relationship counselor, and I don’t pretend to be, and I wasn’t ever married to Johnny Cash although I do look good in Black…

But I have to think that if a fella that “shot a man in Reno just to watch him die,”can find his paradise in his kitchen with his beloved wife of 35 years over coffee every day, there has to be some kinda magic in it.

Think about the power in making time for something or someone and think to yourself, “What do I make time for?”

If you can’t think of anything, or anything worthwhile, it may be time to set an alarm and start the coffee. 😉☕️
