The Search for True Grit

The Search for True Grit

I don’t know about y’all, but I think Sissy would be a hell of a lot of fun to hang out with.

She was a no frills, no bullshit kinda gal, and that kind of character is in short supply these days.

You get to a certain stage in life where you’re repelled by bullshit and attracted to the real.

You know, the gritty, warts and all authenticity that says, “I am truly comfortable in my own skin, and I don’t particularly give a shit what you think.”

In a social media world of smoke and mirrors and photoshopped living my best life made for Instagram horseshit, I think a lot of folks are looking for something real…Seeking something grounded in reality and authenticity. Maybe that’s the cow shit and mud on my boots after these last few days of glorious rain talking, but I don’t think I’m alone here.

Interestingly, the real life Bud and Sissy that served as the inspiration for the Urban Cowboy movie characters appeared in an article in Esquire magazine a few years before the movie.

Dew and Betty Westbrook met, courted, and we’re even married at the famous Gilly’s honky-tonk that appears in the movie.

Writer Aaron Latham told their story in the September 1978 issue of Esquire titled, “The Ballad of the Urban Cowboy: America’s Search For True Grit.”

Latham’s article starts off with this epic paragraph, “In these anxious days, some Americans have turned to God; others, to gurus. But more and more turn to the cowboy hat.”

Let that sink in.

Maybe the antibullshit search for the gritty and real isn’t just a modern response to carefully curated social media profiles and smoke and mirror images after all.

Maybe it’s a timeless response to inauthenticity.

Now I’m not saying that Yoga Cowgirl TX is The next cultural phenomenon, but I ain’t saying it’s not either.

Not get too deep on y’all…

I guess what I’m really trying to say is, y’all come check us out. Turn to the cowboy hat so to speak. At least you know what you’re gonna get.

It’s a good time. It’s approachable. It’s accessible. And it’s 100% USDA Certified Bullshit Free.

Y’all C’mon. We’ll see you there.
